PEUGEOT 508 SW REVEAL

Film
After Effects

FROM THE TRACK, TO THE ROAD...
When the agency approched me to make this reveal film of the new 508 SW, we talked about highlighting the fact that the new 508 SW was born from the heritage between Peugeot and Peugeot Sport. In order to do this, they wanted to play on the fact that the 508 SW was directly born and inspired by race cars. We had the opportunity of having the 9x8 (the 24h LeMans Peugeot car) for a slot just before the start of the season. So the agency proposed having a concept around the 9x8 giving birth to the new 508 SW. What better place than the pit lane to showcase this. Perfect to transform the race car into an everyday racing machine.

Client: Peugeot / Agency: Open / Production: Soldats / Director: Guillaume Allantaz

THE TRACK...
The whole concept of this film was directly linked to the feeling of racing. We were lucky enough to have the possibility to shoot with the 9x8 for the 1st part of our film. So let's make it feel real and shake things up. Feeling the road, hearing the sound of the engine racing and bringing some dynamism with good camera movement.

THE PITSTOP...
The transformation was a key scene of the film. We wanted to give the impression that the race car was being completely transformed in record time. I wanted to play with the usual codes of a real pitstop during a race and push it through an entire transformation of the car. For technical and cost purposes, we couldn't be too extreme on the unmounting of both cars, so we decided to focus on some key body parts of the car and bring some disruptiveness and dynamism in those actions.

THE REVEAL...
Finishing the transfomation, we wanted to slowly reveal the 508 SW as it is a reveal film right ? So, working through the actions of the pitstop we slowly reveal the shapes and key features of this 508 SW, until the car finally leaves the pit.

THE ROULING...
Once the car leaves the pitlane, we discover it on an open road, in the countryside. For that part, as we were on an open road, the car couldn't go too fast for legal reasons. But to keep the pace with the beginning of the film, I wanted to keep some dynamism. Together with the DP, we decided to bring some fast and wide camera movement. We worked with a U-krane to be able to shoot all the key features needed for the film while driving.

THE PLAN...
Making a film like this in such a short period of time (we had 1h to shoot the 9x8) and 6 hours to shoot the 508 SW requires to have a lot of prep and recce to be sure to get all the shots needed. In this storyboard, you'll see some of the scenes we couldn't make because of timing and some for technical reasons or privacy regulations from Peugeot sport policies.

THE DIGITAL...
We also had some digital content to deliver... As always to be able to showcase some extra features, colors and more. I just selected one wich I enjoyed doing: flying a tiny FPV drone inside and outside of the car to make it catchy.

THE BEHIND...
Always a blast to see all the team effort and the toys we were able to have on set. As it was a real short timing, we had a big team to be sure that everything could be done on time ! thanks to all the teammates :)
